Though its inhabitants went about their lives as if nothing had ever happened, they were all living in a radical trap. The city itself was a sex trap, a drug trap, an anti-establishment trap… where all the radical ideas and lifestyles and people could be easily contained, and more importantly, if need be, terminated. The city drew the outcasts of society: the freaks, the junkies, the apathetic rebels, the armchair philosophers, the sexpats, lushes, degenerates, whores, hippies, and losers. It brought them all together in an conveniently extinguishable portal of barely livable squalor… an easily maintained and closely, if imperceptibly, monitored locale. And the best part about it was that it worked all by itself. Its street credibility naturally drew the dregs of society from the ends of the Earth…
